FRIDAY: Have dinner with White Center Kiwanis!

April 17th, 2023 Tracy Posted in How to Help, White Center Kiwanis Club, White Center news Comments Off on FRIDAY: Have dinner with White Center Kiwanis!

As mentioned briefly in our North Highline Unincorporated Area Council meeting coverage earlier this month: The Kiwanis Club of White Center invites you to its fundraising dinner 5-7 pm Friday, April 21, at the White Center Eagles:

This is our second time for a Steak/or Portobello Mushroom featured dinner with tickets at the door at $35, or $30 for each for pairs or multiples. Tickets in advance can be obtained from Bill Tracy 206-248-2441 or billnancytracy@aol.com, or Scott Davis at 206-246-3412 or shorewoodscott@comcast.net.

The Kiwanis also plan a pancake breakfast, same location, on October 7th.

So what does the club do? Bill Tracy, club secretary, explains:

We have been active in the area since 2001. Our goals are to assist the Youth of the North Highline-White Center area through support of specifically the White Center Food Bank, where we work with Evergreen and New Start students, as well as the SW Boys & Girls Club, where we have a CAB member; contributions to WestSide Baby; and especially our sponsorship of a Key Club at New Start HS and guidance with the Key Club at Evergreen HS.

We also offer Student Merit Awards to graduating Key Clubbers at both schools and assist in their attendance at the annual District Convention which covers all of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia. We also honor Students of the Session, each Session, at New Start.

Although we are small, we have been active and are eager to add additional members. At present we meet at 7 pm in the WC Eagles on third Thursdays.

That’s the crew on duty this morning shortly after the Kiwanis Club of White Center kicked off its sale at Greenbridge Plaza, which was on the map for our partner site West Seattle Blog‘s annual WS Community Garage Sale Day, one of 245 sales today from Alki Beach in the north to the Arroyos in the South, with this sale one of four in the WC area. The plaza and the sale layout made for a lovely overview:

Big week for White Center Kiwanis and New Start High School

April 17th, 2012 Tracy Posted in Schools, White Center Kiwanis Club, White Center news Comments Off on Big week for White Center Kiwanis and New Start High School

Two announcements in one!

White Center Kiwanis will be honoring the student of the month from New Start High School Wednesday, April 18 at White Center Pizza. The meeting starts at 12:30 with the presentation to the student soon after. Honoring students at New Start is something that White Center Kiwanis feels is important to the youth of the community because it gives them recognition for their work. The nominations are made by the staff of New Start.

And coming up this Saturday:

White Center Kiwanis will be doing their One Day activity April 21 from 11 to 1 at the White Center Food Bank in conjunction with Key Club of New Start High School. They will be handing out food to clients on the regular 3rd Saturday food distribution. The White Center Kiwanis sponsored this Key Club starting the end of last school year. Two students from the club went to the Key Club convention last month. White Center Kiwanis along with the Key Clubs from Evergreen High School and New Start High School regularly hand out food at the White Center Food Bank on the second Wednesday evening from 6 to 8.

White Center Kiwanis invites you to Key Club fundraiser and ongoing meetings

January 12th, 2012 Tracy Posted in White Center Kiwanis Club, White Center news Comments Off on White Center Kiwanis invites you to Key Club fundraiser and ongoing meetings

White Center Kiwanis Club president Bill Tracy is really proud of the Key Club they now sponsor at New Start High School. After just a few months, he explains, “They have already completed one service project, which was to sell Christmas Holly Wreaths, which they made, for $5. They raised over $300, which they donated to the White Center Food Bank. Now they could use some help so they can pay their yearly dues and perhaps if we are really successful, pay for two students to attend the yearly Key Club convention, which is held in Seattle.” So here’s how you can help: The Key Club’s first annual fundraising baked-potato dinner is set for Thursday night, January 19th, at the school, 614 SW 120th, 6:30-8:30 pm, baked potato bar, salad, rolls, dessert, and beverages, only $10/ticket. You can pay at the door or call Bill at 206-248-2441 for advance tickets. He says there’ll be student entertainment, too.

As for the Kiwanis Club itself – you’re invited to its meetings on first and third Wednesdays, White Center Pizza and Spaghetti House (10231 16th SW), 12:30 pm. Bill says, “We are a service club and concentrate on helping children in our own community. We do food bank service once a month at night so those who work during the day can get food also. Also we have interesting speakers plus we honor a student from New Start High School each month.” Want to know more? Call Nancy Tracy – same number, 206-248-2441.
