FOLLOWUP: Southside Pizza robbery suspect out of jail after bail cut

When 27-year-old Vernon L. Jackson, Jr., was charged two weeks ago in the video-recorded robbery at Southside Pizza, his bail was set at $150,000. Since then, though, according to jail records, his bail was cut to $25,000 and he got out last Friday afternoon after posting bond. The motion to reduce bail was granted by Superior Court Judge Karen Donohue at Jackson’s arraignment last Thursday, despite Jackson having a criminal record including three failures-to-appear since 2011. Police say Jackson told them at the time of his arrest that he committed the robbery – which netted him a reported $40 – to get money to buy drugs. He is due back in court on January 30th.

  1. WCN, I hope you will be able to update us after the January 30th hearing. Please and thank you.

  2. He wonr show for that court this is so disturbing after all the hype to get him caught just for him to be released we wonder why ….our city is going down this is crazy

  3. We can all hope the next person he robs . Gets the upper hand on him and ether put’s him in the hospital or even worse . He gets a dose of street justice .

I know a guy I went to school with he is now been a heroin/meth addict for about 20 years now . I don’t talk to guy ever i stay away . But I look his name up . Every few months and sure enough 9 times out of 10 he has ether just been pick up or just got out of prison or jail . He has a few FTA’s some are what they call non transferable . Which means if he has FTA in king county and gets pick up in snohomish county then king county won’t take him . But if the police find him with a meth pipe or syringes they add on a new charge . But he usually is out with in a few days . Because he has a lawyer and his lawyer gets him out . He use to rome the streets around here breaking into houses cars steeling anything he could get money for or have fun with .

  4. Thanks for the update. I wonder why the judge reduced the bail amount considering he has failed to appear three times in the past. Will be looking for your update as to whether he shows up on the 30th.

  5. I wish the documentation included rationale, and I also wish I had the staff to send downtown to all these hearings, but no on both counts. Just that the defense requested it and the judge granted it. I’ll definitely be watching to see what happens on the 30th – aside from whether or not he shows, it’s just a “case setting” hearing, and most of those result in continuances, to the point where there’s several such hearings in most cases before anything of note ever happens such as a trial date being set. I also keep watch on the jail register.

  6. Ridiculous. He has several no-shiws, so let’s give him a chance at another? I’d be irritated enough if he’d just been in and out of trouble but had proven that he could at least make his appearances.

This is sticking your hand in the fire and expecting not to get burned.
