2 days after county honors, Dick Thurnau passes away

Just last Friday, we reported here on King County Executive Dow Constantine‘s proclamation of “Dick Thurnau Day” in honor of the longtime community advocate, recently diagnosed with cancer. Sunday morning, Mr. Thurnau passed away, according to North Highline Unincorporated Area Council president Barbara Dobkin. No memorial information just yet but we expect to hear from Mr. Thurnau’s family soon. He was 89 years old.

First met Dick at a meeting where he was advocating to have some “lake” that we found out was Hick’s Lake cleaned up. At about the same time he was working hard to have it renamed Hicklin Lake. Of course, he was successful in this venture. Now the lake is home to floating islands to help revive it using nature. We found him a man of passion for his home community of White Center and his beloved Hicklin Lake. His passion for this community will be sorely missed. Thanks, Dick, for all you did to help make this a great place to live.
