  1. Thank you for sharing!
At Center Studio, our January Artist is Amanda Kay Helmick.
Join us from 6-9 with sips and snacks.

    About Amanda
I paint to create backdrops – to create depth in the flat plane. My undisciplined hands texture, rip, score, sew and drill into a canvas that becomes a vessel – holding discarded and repurposed objects and transforming their plain and humble existence.
Raised in Chicagoland, I moved to Seattle in 2000 after a short layover in Arizona. The experience of losing a close friend right after my move to Seattle reset my life and creative path. Painting as an homage, I was timid at first, dotting the canvas with primary colors, or swirls of complimentary colors. I renewed my love of still photography during this period as well. Photographing nature opened my eyes to structure and texture, things I imitate in my paintings. I have no formal training, but credit experimentation and observation as my artistic education. My paintings reflect the continuing exploration of my creative journey.
