You are invited to the monthly Trusted Advocates Storytelling Program “OUR STORIES, OUR VOICES.” Join us! Hear stories from our local communities – stories of personal journeys, family life, of memorable people from old and new places.

Friday, January 18th at the White Center Community Cultural Center’s Hillborn Room.
6:00 pm: Light meal from presenter’s culture/heritage
6:30 pm: Storytelling program – followed by Q/A segment

Our Special Guest this month:
Jesus Ybarra Rodriguez
The Chicano Movement

Trusted Advocates Co-Chair will share his workshop on the Chicano Movement during
the 1960’s and 1970’s. Sharing stories on major activists: Cesar Chavez, Corky Gonzalez, Jose Angel Gutierrez and Reis Lopez Tijerina. Jesus will discuss the
movement and its ties to our present time.

BIO:
Jesus Ybarra Rodriguez holds a BA in Philosophy, an MA in Romance Languages & Literature and received doctoral level coursework in General Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Washington. He served as the Leadership Program Manager at the Nonprofit Assistance Center and has coordinated leadership programs in Seattle as well as the Northwest, in conjunction with the Annie E. Casey Foundation for the last 10 years. Currently co-chair of Trusted Advocates, a multicultural grassroots organization as well as co-chair of the City of Seattle Immigrant and Refugee Commission. Jesus has been a trainer, facilitator and consultant for schools, colleges and universities in the State of Washington. Areas of expertise include nonprofit management, early childhood education, child rearing practices, parent organizing and advocacy, nonprofit organizational development, community capacity building, cultural awareness/competency, Chicano/Mexican History, Civil Rights, Civic Engagement, Citizenship, juvenile justice and grassroots fundraising.
